The Ministry of Energy of Lithuania has proposed dismantling its closed thermal power plants for spare parts to support Ukraine's energy system, according to the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
"I had a conversation with the Minister of Energy of Lithuania. They proposed to use their closed thermal power plants as donors, meaning possibly dismantling and obtaining the necessary spare parts for us from them," he said.
The minister added that other countries are also assisting Ukraine in coping with the consequences of Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.
At the same time, according to Halushchenko, the best defense would be strengthening Ukraine's air defense system.
Attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure
On March 22, Russia carried out the most extensive attack on Ukraine's energy sector since the beginning of the war. Specifically, the dam and technical buildings of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant in Zaporizhzhia were damaged.
The aggressor's military also completely destroyed the Zmiivska Thermal Power Plant in the Kharkiv region.
Halushchenko described the March 22 attack as the most massive since the start of the war. DTEK (Ukraine's energy company) lost about 80% of its power generation capacity.
However, the Ministry of Energy does not consider raising electricity tariffs for the population.
