Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United did well to hold Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Liverpool are aiming to beat Arsenal and Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, while Manchester United are unlikely to end up even fifth in the standings.
Jurgen Klopp’s side headed into the match at Old Trafford as favourites, but the Merseyside club needed a late goal from Mohamed Salah from the penalty spot to salvage a point from the encounter.
United were 1-0 down at half time, but Erik ten Hag’s side launched a comeback and went 2-1 up midway through the second half.
While the Red Devils were not at their very best, they did pose a threat to Liverpool. While the Merseyside club had a lot of chances to score, the fact of the matter is that they did not take them.
One of the players who played well for United against Liverpool at Old Traffford was Kobbie Mainoo, and Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been raving about him.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker and BBC Match of the Day presenter Lineker has noted how Mainoo is similar to Real Madrid and England international midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Newcastle United legend Shearer has said that Mainoo, 18, is an incredible talent.

Lineker said about Mainoo on The Rest is Football podcast: “He is 19, isn’t he, in a couple of weeks’ time, but I mean, not just his performance but also his post-match interview.
“I mean, he is so bright and articulate, measured, confident, in many ways similar to Jude Bellingham in the way he handles himself.
“I know players are probably coached a little bit in that area these days, but to be that natural and that confident and mature at such a tender age I think is so impressive.”
Shearer said about Mainoo on The Rest is Football podcast: “Do you know what I love? When he scored, I loved his celebration. It was like, ‘Look at me, look at how cool I am’.
“I mean, the whole world was looking at him as they were during the game, but you would never know. He has taken everything in his stride, hasn’t he? He is just so b****y good. What a talent, I mean, proper proper talent. Incredible.”
Kobbie Mainoo a rising Manchester United star
In my opinion, Kobbie Mainoo is one of the best young midfielders around and is a rising star for Manchester United.
Mainoo is only 18 now, but he has already established himself as one of the most important players in the United midfield.
Against Liverpool, Mainoo started alongside Casemiro in holding midfield for United. The teenager scored for the Red Devils midway through the second half.
The midfielder has scored two goals in 17 Premier League matches for Ten Hag’s side this season.
