‘What a joke’: Alan Shearer slams ‘embarrassing’ Arsenal player after Brighton game and Gary Lineker agrees

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have both slammed one Arsenal player following their win at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening.

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League with a convincing 3-0 win at Brighton over the weekend.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard rounded off yet another dominant display on the road.

Following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, the Gunners now sit top of the Premier League on goal difference while being a point above reigning champions Manchester City.

Despite a positive result at the Amex, Ben White has come under fire following an incident involving Brighton full-back Estupinian.

Footage shows the Arsenal defender nudged the Brighton man as he jogged past, which led to Estupinian retaliating and shoving White.

The Arsenal defender then collapsed to the ground and held his throat. The incident was checked and cleared by the VAR but it’s led to many criticising White.

Shearer and Lineker slam ‘embarrassing’ White

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Alan Shearer reacted to the incident involving White and Estupinian.

The Newcastle United legend said: “What a joke that was!”

Gary Lineker agreed with Shearer and added: “What I don’t understand… play acting I don’t like, I never have, I don’t get it, I don’t know why players do it, but particularly now when you have so many cameras in the ground and you have got VAR that are there anyway that would look at it if you made someone get a red card.

“Do you not think to yourself that’s a bit embarrassing doing that? And Ben White is not the only one doing it, there are lots of players doing it, but I just think to myself why would you bring that on yourself? You just look at prat.”

“It was embarrassing. Very, very embarrassing,” Shearer added.

White’s stats against Brighton

Despite the incident that’s led to criticism of White, the £50 million defender put in yet another solid showing at right-back.

Declan Rice recently lauded the Englishman as ‘unbelievable’ and White has become a dependable player for Arteta.

At Brighton on Saturday, he picked up a 7.11 match rating from Who Scored as he won 100 per cent of his aerial duels and one tackle on the day.
