Roy Keane delivers his honest opinion on Timo Werner’s ability after seeing him at Tottenham

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane has issued his verdict on Timo Werner after watching him closely at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites were able to get back to winning ways after their draw away to West Ham on Tuesday night.

And three points for Ange Postecoglou‘s side proved enough to take them back into fourth spot after Aston Villa’s draw on Saturday.

An own goal and then strikes from Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro were enough to seal the win for Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And there were some impressive individual performances in the Spurs side with half time substitutions making a big difference one again.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur both came on at the break and transformed the game for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham may have returned to the top four, but it far too early to be getting ahead of themselves with some huge games on the horizon.

Spurs travel to Newcastle United on the weekend – a place where they were thumped 6-1 last season.

And then after that they still face games against Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and the cursed Chelsea away.

Keane issues honest thought after Werner creates another goal for Spurs

Tottenham had yet another fairly poor first halves where they were unable to take a lead into half time.

Postecoglou’s side have had their issues in finding the back of the net in the first halves of games this season, but this wasn’t the case on Sunday.

Timo Werner was able to work his magic down the left side and fired in an enticing cross into the box.

It was a cross which saw Nottingham Forest defender Murillo get on the end of and slot home into his own net.

However, Spurs were unable to then build on this goal in the first half may even have considered themselves fortunate to not be trailing at the break.

But it was just another example of Werner’s ability to beat his man and get in a cross down the left.

This comes just days after TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil slammed the German as not being good enough to play for Tottenham.

However, speaking on Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Keane had a slightly different view on the 28-year-old’s displays in a Spurs shirt.

“He’s a nuisance to play against, Werner. There’s question marks about his end product and his final pass, but he does affect games, he is a threat,” Keane said.

“I think probably wide [is his best position]. I don’t think he enjoys having his back to players and his hold up play. But when he’s in those wide positions, he is effective.”

Postecoglou was full of praise for Werner after the game

Annoyingly, Werner will not get the assist for the opener as it was an own goal, but he is really beginning to pick up the goal contributions in a Spurs shirt.

There is no doubt his finishing could be improved with more goals having already been left out on the pitch in a Spurs shirt.

But Postecoglou is loving what he is seeing from Werner and rightfully so. After the game, the 58-year-old hailed the German to the media.

“Yeah I thought Timo was good. Worked hard, always a threat. He ran at the opposition really well, contributed to our first goal. The second half in particular he helped us, really pinned them back.”
