Glasner must now break worrying 5-month Crystal Palace trend to stand chance v Liverpool - Our View

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will be tasked with another significant challenge on Sunday in the Premier League, as the Eagles brace themselves for a trip to Anfield.

After the 4-2 loss to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, Crystal Palace will prepare to face another big task this weekend, with Liverpool the next side for Oliver Glasner to battle.

The Austrian has won just one of his opening six Premier League games in charge, a victory against Burnley back in February at Selhurst Park.

It’s been a vastly disappointing season for the Eagles, who have struggled to build to form, highlighted by being yet to secure back-to-back wins this term with only seven games remaining.

Sitting only five points above the relegation zone, things aren’t forecast to get any easier for the South Londoners, who must now overcome a five-month trend if they are to stand a chance against Jurgen Klopp’s title challengers.

What Crystal Palace must do for the first time in five months against Liverpool

If facing a trip to Anfield wasn’t difficult enough for Glasner’s side, Palace’s away record this season doesn’t shed any positivity going into the fixture either.

In their 16 away games so far this term, the Eagles have secured only three wins, conceding 30 goals, the same amount that Liverpool have let in over the entirety of the season.

Sadly for Glasner, it’s not just Palace’s form this campaign as a whole that is concerning ahead of the weekend, but the fact that he will have to motivate his side to do something they haven’t done in over five months to secure three points.

The last time the South Londoners won away from home was at the start of November, recording a 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Since then, Palace have picked up four points from a possible 30 on the road, telling of the magnitude of Glasner’s task on Saturday.

Crystal Palace must find points from somewhere to finish strongly

While the relegation battle looks to be a party closed off by Nottingham Forest, Luton Town, Sheffield United, Burnley and Everton, there’s no ruling out Palace yet mathematically.

The Eagles have some difficult games ahead of them in the run-in, which is far from ideal considering how poor the squad’s form has been of late.

Glasner took over at a difficult time in the season, portrayed by him only picking up five points from his opening six games, not eased by injury concerns and tough opposition.

If Palace were to win over Liverpool, they would be the first team to do so at Anfield this season, reinforcing the miracle that the boss would be asking for to take three points away.
