'Weird': Gary Lineker admits he found something really strange about Tottenham's win over Forest

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Gary Lineker has now admitted that he found something very odd during Sunday’s win over Nottingham Forest.

Ange Postecoglou’s side started the game really well when going ahead through an own-goal after Timo Werner’s strong work down the left.

And having almost caught Guglielmo Vicario out at the other end moments earlier, Murillo then unintentionally rewarded Spurs for their strong start.

However, as is usually the case with Postecoglou’s Tottenham team, it wasn’t necessarily a straight-forward win thereafter.

The Forest attackers were given far too much time and space down Spurs’ left side to equalise, a strike that could have been easily added to.

However, if conceding goals is a worrying trend at Tottenham right now, their ability to still win regardless should be commended.

And whilst dishing out the praise, Micky van de Ven deserves to be at the top of the list.

That being said, Gary Lineker did find something strange about Tottenham’s win over Forest yesterday.

Gary Lineker explains that Tottenham are still so inconsistent after Forest win

Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Lineker pointed out just how hot and cold Spurs can be in games, suddenly allowing the opposition right back in.

He explained: “It was a weird game actually because the first 20 minutes Tottenham were terrific.

“They scored a goal and it was a brilliant save from the chance Johnson had, and then Forest for the last 20 minutes of the second half were outstanding and played some great football.

“They should have gone in ahead at half time but Tottenham were much better in the second half.”

Of course, Gary Lineker must be referring to the moment in which Chris Wood could have easily handed Forest the lead against Tottenham.

Earlier in the season, conceding goals was blamed on either adjusting to a high-line or important players being injured.

But with Tottenham’s back four all now fit and well-versed in Postecoglou’s demands, something does need to improve.

The Spurs boss clearly decided his midfield duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr weren’t doing enough ahead of the defence yesterday.

And whilst Postecoglou should be praised for his quick reaction, Tottenham fans will surely want their manager to start getting it right from the off.

All that being said, both Cristian Romero and Crysencio Summerville were left blown away by one performance yesterday.
