Southampton fans have now been given a seriously poor deal for Leeds United crunch match

Southampton travel to Leeds United’s Elland Road fortress on the final day of the gruelling Championship campaign.

Russell Martin‘s side will likely have nothing to play for, with automatic promotion now seemingly out of reach after failing to win any of their last three games.

The South Coasters were held to a disappointing goalless draw to relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on the weekend, leaving them 12 points adrift of second-placed Ipswich Town.

They are now resigned to a play-off campaign, so the remaining seven games, in many ways, don’t have a lot riding on them.

With that said, it makes the ticket pricing for the trip to Leeds all the more baffling.

On Monday morning, Daily Echo journalist Alfie House posted on X confirming the ticket prices for Southampton’s trip to Leeds. It’s fair to say, many supporters were not pleased.

House was quick to respond to Leeds supporters who claimed reciprocal pricing as the reason for the inflated fee.

One Leeds fan claimed that Saints failed to lower theirs to £25 back in September and if they had, the price would’ve been matched this time around.

Ticket prices should be matched where possible

Ticket prices should be matched where possible, with both clubs agreeing on a similar fee to charge for the two sets of visiting supporters.

That way a fairer outcome is reached and naturally it would facilitate a better relationship between the duo moving forward.

No football fan should have to shell out £48 to watch their team away, particularly given the added costs of transport and in some cases, accommodation.

Previewing the game

Aside from the ticket prices, when Leeds welcome Southampton on May 4, it promises to be a goal-flooded encounter, with a lot on the line.

Whilst Saints may not have a great deal to play for, the West Yorkshire outfit are expected to be in a race for automatic promotion.

So it could be a basketball encounter, in many ways, with Saints potentially looking to spoil the party ahead of their play-off campaign.

The last time these pair met, Rusell Martin’s side claimed a 3-1 victory at St Mary’s, so he’ll be hoping for a repeat this time around.

Southampton need to finish the season strongly and in these remaining seven games, they must try and galvanize the environment to get supporters believing heading into the playoffs.
