West Ham players must see exactly what Xabi Alonso just said about quarter-final clash right now

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has spoken to the press ahead of his side’s Europa League quarter-final clash with West Ham on Thursday.

West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen head into the Europa League quarter-final tie in good spirits, having both won their most recent games domestically.

The Bundesliga side will be without the injured Adam Hlozek for the Hammers clash, but they have plenty more players who can really hurt us.

However, I really feel like fans and pundits alike are writing us off far too quickly. David Moyes knows how to get the job done in Europe.

Remember the 2022 win away at Lyon, or last year’s success away at AZ Alkmaar? Sure, Leverkusen will represent a different challenge entirely, but we have the players who can really hurt them.

Every single West Ham player needs to read what the Leverkusen boss has just said about the two-legged quarter-final tie…

Alonso speaks ahead of West Ham Europa League quarter-final clash

The Hammers fans are eagerly anticipating the clash with Leverkusen out in Germany later this week, and the second-leg back at the London Stadium seven days later.

The Bundesliga side have been one of the very best teams to watch on the continent this season, with Alonso having earned rave reviews.

The Spaniard spoke to reporters yesterday about the upcoming clash with West Ham, as quoted by Get Football News Germany:

“We can look ahead to West Ham and the Europa League. Thursday will be a historic night at home, it’s what you dream of and we are dreaming of the final. We are setting goals and the next game is so important for us in the Europa League, it’s an historic opportunity.”

Well there you have it. If any of the West Ham players were hoping that Alonso would be prioritising Leverkusen’s Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen on Sunday, then they’ll be severely disappointed.

It’s very clear from the Bayer Leverkusen manager’s comments there that The Europa League quarter-final against West Ham is the only thing on his mind right now.

Leverkusen will not be taking their eye off the ball on Thursday night, in spite of the fact that three points against Werder Bremen three days later could secure them their first ever Bundesliga title.

The West Ham players had better be on it this week. The German side are one of the best in Europe right now, and the Hammers face an incredibly tough task ahead, if we’re to progress through to the semi-finals of the Europa League.
