Manchester United fans name man of the match in 2-2 draw v Liverpool, winner had almost half the vote

Manchester United supporters had a clear winner in mind when selecting the man of the match against Liverpool.

Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool was a game of mixed emotions. While nice to dent Liverpool’s title challenge, it was also another hurtful result in our attempts to earn Champions League football next season.

United were leading 2-1 before a late penalty tied the game, blowing a third lead in a week.

Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo scored Manchester United’s goals in the second half, after the team failed to muster a shot in the first 45 minutes.

Manchester United man of the match v Liverpool

Manchester United fans voted for the man of the match against Liverpool via the club app, and there was an overwhelming winner.

  • Kobbie Mainoo: 47 per cent
  • Bruno Fernandes: 18 per cent
  • Willy Kambwala: 13 per cent
  • Andre Onana: 11 per cent
  • All other players four per cent or fewer.

Mainoo landed almost half the vote, and was also the winner in our United In Focus matchday poll, via our Whatsapp channel.

At time of writing this was even more one-sided, with Mainoo leading on 76 per cent of the vote.

Kobbie Mainoo a deserving winner

Kobbie Mainoo, 18, scored his first ever goal atOld Trafford in the draw, and his third ever goal for the club.

The teenage midfielder has been a class act all season, and it would have been great if his goal had managed to win United the game.

The way he took a touch and curled the ball into the corner was reminiscent of the famous one scored by Federico Macheda back in 2009.

Mainoo said after the game that he was not in the mood to really celebrate, citing United’s failure to get all three points.

He told club media: “We don’t walk away with the three points, so I can’t be too happy.”
