John Calipari hasn’t offered an official resignation to Kentucky amid a potential contract violation, according to Kentucky Sports Radio.
KSR’s Jack Pilgrim reported there was no official word from Kentucky or Arkansas after Calipari reportedly agreed to a five-year deal. What’s also telling is Kentucky was never informed.
This would lead to a potential contract violation if he were to leave for Arkansas under these circumstances.
“A very important detail to keep in mind as we quickly approach the 24-hour mark since John Calipari’s reported five-year agreement with Arkansas and no official word,” Pilgrim wrote on Twitter. “Kentucky was never informed he was deep in discussions with another school, thus a violation of his contract.”
KSR’s Matt Jones provided a telling update on the situation, which could signal far more about Calipari’s future plans with the Wildcats. Subscribers can view that HERE.
Later on, USA Today’s Dan Wolken reported the contract details are just being finalized on Arkansas’ end.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there’s nothing strange going on with the Calipari-Arkansas deal,” Wolken wrote on Twitter. “‘100% on track’ and just finishing up details.”
As long as Calipari is definitely on Arkansas’ sidelines next year, On3’s James Fletcher specifically had a clear path for how the former Kentucky coach can effectively build out his new team.
“There’s two major factors that play into John Calipari being able to kickstart his success in the transition Kentucky fans wanted to see as he arrives at Arkansas. No. 1 is that he’s going to start from scratch on this roster,” Fletcher explained, noting the departures from Arkansas following Eric Musselman’s move to USC.
“He is not going to have pretty much anyone. I think they have one player who is currently on the roster and that’s a guy who might enter the NBA Draft. So, he will be building a roster from scratch without having a full recruiting cycle to bring in freshman.”
Calipari is 813-260 in his career as a coach. Over the course of his career with Kentucky, he went 410-122 and won the 2012 national championship.
The Wildcats were the runner ups in 2014 and and made it to the Final Four the next season. However, Kentucky has not made it back to the Final Four or beyond since.
