Dan Hurley has gone back-to-back, leading No. 1 overall seed UConn to the program’s sixth national championship in 25 years with a 75-60 victory over Purdue in Phoenix.
And not only did the Huskies win, they steamrolled the Boilermakers, controlling the game from start to finish en route to the double-digit victory — a 12th straight. This time around, it was a +140 point differential with a 23.3 average margin of victory.
It started with a 39-point win over Stetson in the opening round, followed by a 17-point victory over Northwestern, 30-point win over San Diego State and a 25-point win over Illinois to advance to the Final Four. From there, it was a 14-point victory over Alabama before the 15-point win in the grand finale.
From the start of the regular season to the end of postseason play, UConn was the best team in college basketball by a mile. And it falls right in line with what the Huskies did the year before under Hurley, winning games of 24, 15, 23, 28, 13 and 17 for that national championship, an average margin of victory of 20.0 points and a total differential of +260 across two consecutive postseasons.
