'A kind fixture...': Sky Sports pundit gives score prediction for Leeds United vs Sunderland

Sunderland travel to Leeds United in the Championship on Tuesday evening.

Sunderland are back on the road after a 0-0 draw vs Bristol City at the Stadium of Light last time out.

Mike Dodds‘ side remain in a poor vein of form, having won just one of his eight games as interim boss now, with the Black Cats having just one win in their last 10.

Leeds United currently sit in 3rd place of the Championship table after defeat vs Coventry City last time out.

Daniel Farke’s side are two points behind leaders Leicester City and so they’ll be out for blood against a misfiring Sunderland side.

Sunderland, in their club history, have beaten Leeds United 35 times, losing 40, and drawing 19.

When the two teams met on Wearside earlier in the season, it ended in a 1-0 Sunderland win; Dodds was in charge that night, with Jobe Bellingham the goal scorer.

And Sunderland haven’t won at Elland Road since 2006; a 2-0 win in the Championship.

The Black Cats had a good record at Elland Road in the early 2000s, winning three out of five trips to Leeds’ home ground between 2000 and 2006.

Their last game there was a 1-1 draw during the 2017/18 season.

David Prutton gives score prediction for Leeds United vs Sunderland

Giving his score prediction for the game between Leeds United and Sunderland on Tuesday night, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton wrote:

“That was a real setback for Leeds at Coventry, but it wasn’t hugely unexpected with it being such a tough trip. They need to bounce back quickly, mind.

“But this is a kind fixture as Sunderland are just trying to get through to the end of the season now. This should be a home win.”

Prutton predicts a 2-1 win for Leeds United.

Mike Dodds was missing one thing against Bristol City

Against Bristol City last time out, Sunderland looked worlds better than they did during the 5-1 defeat vs Blackburn Rovers.

But they were missing one thing; end product.

Sunderland had more than their share of chances and really should’ve won the game comfortably.

But Dodds didn’t have any player capable of turning good play and good attacks into goals, and if it’s the same case against Leeds, the Black Cats will surely lose.

Jack Clarke will hopefully be fit and firing and out with a point to prove against his former club, with the 23-year-old potentially set to put a spanner in Leeds’ promotion bid.

And with very little to play for now, Sunderland could go out at Elland Road and play with some freedom, knowing that Leeds might be very cagey following their defeat vs Coventry.

Kick off is at 8pm and the game will be shown live on Sky Sports.
