Bayern Munich star now admits Arteta 'really helped' his career ahead of Arsenal clash

One Bayern Munich player has now opened up about his connection with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal are set to host Bayern Munich in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners will be determined to make full use of their home advantage. Arsenal will have a boost in this match as Bayern Munich shall not be allowed to bring any of their own fans into the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta will be looking to the North London club’s supporters to create a raucous atmosphere for this continental showdown. When the Gunners took on Porto in the last round of the competition, Arteta tasked Arsenal fans with generating plenty of noise and passion. He will want more of the same from the stands on this occasion.

The Gunners should be full of confidence heading into this encounter as they have been in dazzling form of late. However, they will not be taking the threat that the German giants pose lightly.

Arsenal warned of Bayern Munich threat

Although Thomas Tuchel’s side have struggled domestically this season, there is still an abundance of quality in their ranks. It has even been claimed that Bayern Munich outclass Arsenal on an individual player-for-player basis.

Certainly, in the likes of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Leroy Sane, amongst others, Bayern Munich possess players with the capacity to hurt Arsenal.

Sane, in particular, is a player that Arteta will know all about. The pair worked together for a time whilst the winger was on the books at Manchester City and Arteta was based at the Etihad Stadium, working as an assistant to Pep Guardiola.

Arteta and Sane were both based in the north west between 2016 and 2019, before the Spanish coach was handed the reins in the dugout at the Emirates Stadium.

Leroy Sane shares insight into past relationship with Mikel Arteta

The 28-year-old attacker has now reflected upon his time he spent working with the Arsenal boss. Speaking in a press conference ahead of this Champions League fixture, as quoted by Hayters TV, Sane said, “it was great. I was pleased to work with him because he actually really helped me at City. We had a lot of individual talks about how I can improve, strengths, my weaknesses, we worked a lot.”

“I made huge improvements under him, he gave that to me. I still keep that in my mind and put that in my game – positioning, how to behave in certain positions. I’m thankful.”

Arteta honed his coaching skills whilst he was working with Manchester City, and he has now been able to develop plenty of players during his time at the helm at Arsenal. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard, amongst others, have benefited from his guidance in the same way that Sane once did.
