Tyson Fury's dad John called out for fight by world's oldest boxer - 'Let's get something on'

The world's oldest boxer Steve Ward has called out Tyson Fury's dad for a fight at the age of 67.

John Fury will turn 60 next month but Ward is keen to enter the ring with him after being bombarded with comments from strangers.

Ward holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest boxer in a competitive fight, earning the accolade when he was 64.

But he is prepared to fight again three years after hanging up his gloves following a bout with Jimmy Lloyd.

Ward says he is often approached by people in the street who claim Fury senior has been bad-mouthing him.

He recognises that it could be hearsay and that Fury has not said what the strangers have been telling him.

But if the rumours are true, then Ward wants to settle their differences in the ring.

He told talkSPORT: "I have had people come up to me in Nottingham, Chesterfield, Mansfield. Probably a couple of others.

"Now if this is all as I say, rubbish talk, c*** talk. Fair enough. But they tell me that, 'John Fury says that he'd beat you, John Fury says you're an old man.'

"They tell me, 'John Fury says you shouldn't be a world champ', and all this. I'm taking a lot.

"Now, if it is just them who recognise me walking around because people do, they recognise you, then I apologise to John Fury. I'm sorry.

"But if it is him who is saying this, I'd rather not talk about it, and let's get something done about it because I'm not a talker but I am a fighter.

"Either way, it's there. So he will either send me an apology if he hears this, and it's just people coming to me, I don't know him.

"If it's people just spouting off, fair enough, I apologise for saying what I've just said.

"But if it is him, don't talk about it. Let's get something on. I'm a fighter, a thoroughbred one."

Fury senior had 13 fights in his professional career, the last being almost 30 years ago.

Steve Ward

Meanwhile, Ward has been heavily critical of this summer's fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.

He wonders if there will be 'something nasty' in the background that prevents each fighter from knocking the other out.

Ward said: "Personally, I think that Mike Tyson could go straight out there and knock him out within a minute, just cream him altogether.

"But are they going to allow that? Or is there something nasty going off in the background that says 'You don't knock him out, Mike? Well, it's all to be seen.'

John Fury

"For me personally, I wish the fight had never been made because if it is like that, and Mike holds back on the reins, it only looks bad for one person, Mike Tyson.

"I wouldn't like him to go out there losing his respect and I really think if he's held back that's exactly what's going to happen.

"So it's a shameful thing. I wish it had never got off the ground."
