Fabrizio Romano drops Gabriel Jesus future claim in Arsenal striker transfer update

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has now revealed what the future holds for Gabriel Jesus as Arsenal consider signing a striker.

Gabriel Jesus has endured a difficult season in front of goal for Arsenal.

Injuries have disrupted the Brazilian’s campaign, and he has managed to find the back of the net just four times in the Premier League, having made 21 appearances in the competition.

The former Manchester City man has never exactly been a goal machine. However, Mikel Arteta will have expected a better return from the forward this season. Jesus has made a vow to change his game in an effort to become more prolific, but the chances are that the 27-year-old will struggle to make significant improvements in this regard at this stage in his career.

Where does Gabriel Jesus now stand at Arsenal?

The striker’s profligacy and recurrent injury issues have now seen him slip down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium. Kai Havertz is currently Arteta’s first-choice pick to lead the line for the Gunners.

The German has been in fine form in recent weeks and is an ideal tactical fit for Arteta’s system. His physical prowess and aerial ability give the Gunners the ability to go long more often, and his clever movement occupies opposition defenders, creating space for the likes of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka to exploit.

Havertz has been credited with making Odegaard and Saka better, and he is almost certain to start as Arsenal’s striker against Bayern Munich in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday evening.

Jesus may well feature in that game too, on the flank, due to Gabriel Martinelli’s recent fitness issues. He came to Arsenal to prove himself as a striker, though, and it seems that he may now have failed to make himself the North London club’s main man in that regard.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of strikers ahead of this summer’s upcoming transfer window. If the Gunners do strengthen in that position then Jesus’ chances of regaining his regular starting berth may well diminish further.

Fabrizio Romano makes claim about Gabriel Jesus future amid Arsenal striker search

Fabrizio Romano has now provided his insight into what Arsenal plan for Jesus going forward. As quoted by Caught Offside, the reporter stated, “I’ve spoken on here about Arsenal being likely to sign an important striker this summer, and Gabriel Jesus has spoken publicly about the situation and what he feels he can do to persuade the club not to make a signing in that position.”

“Still, I don’t think a new striker coming in would mean anything for Jesus. He’s an important player for Arsenal; also, they have a top roster for a top team and also with eight UCL games in the group next season plus all the other competitions you always need at least two important strikers. That’s why it doesn’t change anything for his future – Gabriel Jesus remains part of Arsenal plans…I’m sure he can show what an important role he can play in Mikel Arteta’s side.”
