Fulham reportedly ready to chase 'sensational' Arsenal talent again this summer after January snub

Fulham must have a number of midfield targets in mind for the summer transfer window amid questions over the future of Joao Palhinha.

Palhinha has been a one-man tackling machine ever since joining Fulham from Sporting for around £20million in 2022.

The Portuguese powerhouse has been the finest signing since Fulham’s return to the Premier League and fans absolutely love him.

We saw strong rumours surrounding a move to Bayern Munich before the summer transfer deadline, but he stayed at Craven Cottage.

Palhinha continues to shine in the Premier League and he is primed for a key role with Portugal at Euro 2024.

We would expect to see plenty of speculation surrounding Palhinha’s future this summer and we have already seen Tony Khan suggest that Fulham are open to a sale if the price is right.

Fulham need to have potential midfield signings in mind and amid links to Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, a younger prospect may also be wanted.

Fulham eyeing Arsenal talent

If Palhinha leaves, maybe we see Fulham go for a proven defensive midfielder like Phillips as well as a talent for the future.

Football Transfers now claim that Fulham are interested in signing Arsenal prospect Charlie Patino.

It’s suggested that Mikel Arteta believes in Patino’s potential to become a Premier League star but that may not come at Arsenal.

Fulham could now pounce for Patino, who is currently on on loan at Swansea City in the Championship.

Football Transfers actually suggested in January that Fulham had made an approach to sign Patino, asking Arsenal to cancel his spell with Swansea.

Arsenal refused at the time but Fulham will allegedly make a new move at the end of the season in the hope of finally luring Patino to West London.

Who is Charlie Patino?

Patino hails from Watford and spent time in the ranks of both St Albans City and Luton Town before joining Arsenal in 2015.

Patino has been a regular for England from Under-15 all the way up to Under-21 level but does still qualify to play for Spain through his father.

The 20-year-old impressed on loan at Blackpool last season and has now chipped in with three goals and four assist for the Swans.

Patino has only started 13 Championship games though and this spell hasn’t gone quite as well as his stint at Blackpool.

A technically-gifted midfield player, Patino isn’t quite in the mould of Palhinha but could have a bright future ahead of him.

Rio Ferdinand has previously hailed Patino as a ‘serious player’, suggesting that he is technically ridiculous’ on the ball.

Patino has also been dubbed ‘sensational’ by Blackpool teammate Jerry Yates and has clearly been highly rated throughout his career.

Settling down at Fulham could be just what Patino needs and after repeated links in 2024, he looks to be a player to keep close tabs on.
