Arsenal star says Bayern Munich have a player who's the best 'in the world' at one thing

Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich tonight will see some of the world’s best players face off in a fascinating tie.

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently top of the Premier League with seven games to go, and given their outstanding form in 2024, they are one of the favourites to win the Champions League, which would be their first-ever triumph in the competition.

Bayern Munich have won it six times, but this has been one of their worst seasons in recent memory. Bayer Leverkusen are about to win the Bundesliga, which would end Bayern’s streak of winning it every single year for over a decade, and this is their last chance to win a trophy.

Thomas Tuchel will leave the club at the end of the season, and he has admitted that Arsenal are currently the best team in England.

Bayern’s poor season comes as something of a surprise, given that they parted with a club-record fee to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, but he has found that so far, his lack of silverware has followed him across Europe. Nevertheless, he is still one of the best strikers in the world.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has now praised his opposite number Kane, with the England captain set to return to North London for the first time since his move last summer, and Jesus has claimed that the 30-year-old is the best finisher in the world.

“Everyone knows the quality of Harry Kane. He’s the best finisher in the world. It’s great to play against these kinds of players. We want to keep him quiet in the game — and then we try to win the game,” Jesus stated.

“Also, it’s not only Harry Kane, but a lot of players like Sane, my old friend, Musiala, Coman, Muller — what a player — Gnabry. It’s a lot. They have quality players there.

“I don’t watch players to try to take something from them. I watch to enjoy it. All the players have their own qualities, like I do. I don’t try to copy someone. But obviously, you see him finishing, you want to keep seeing and watching — and just enjoy it.”

Kane has terrorised Arsenal in several North London derbies, but whilst he has scored at the Emirates several times, he failed to record a single Premier League victory.

  • Games: 9
  • Goals: 5
  • Assists: 1
  • Wins: 1
  • Draws: 3
  • Losses: 5
  • Penalty goals: 4
  • Yellow cards: 3

Spurs did win a Carabao Cup clash in December 2019, with Kane coming on as substitute, but he will be eager to end his barren spell at the ground of his old rivals on the big stage.

Kane has scored 14 times against Arsenal in the Premier League, more than any other player in the history of the competition, but eight of these came from the penalty spot, and his last open-play goal at the Emirates actually came in a 1-1 draw in November 2015, a game which saw Mikel Arteta come on as a substitute.
