15-goal Arsenal wonderkid now closing in on Hale End record that has stood since 2007

One Arsenal youngster could now be set to beat a Hale End record that has stood at the club since the 2006/07 season.

Arsene Wenger had a rich history of promoting players from the Arsenal academy and was always prepared to hand out chances in the first team.

Of course, that did become more prevalent once Arsenal were financially restrained during their move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger’s side could no longer afford to bring in Europe’s top talent, and had to put an even greater emphasis on developing players instead.

That being said, the majority of Arsenal fans would probably enjoy Mikel Arteta involving a few more of the club’s rich young talents in the coming years.

In his seismic task of turning the club’s fortunes around, it’s understandable that Arteta hasn’t leaned on the academy, preferring to sign new talent in the transfer market.

But given the level Arsenal have now reached, it would be rewarding if the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly were soon given an opportunity.

Arsenal youngster Chido Obi-Martin is now five goals away from beating Hale End record

That being said, it seems as if another Hale End youngster could be about to burst onto the senior Arsenal picture as well.

Having scored two goals against Brighton today in Arsenal under-18’s 5-3 win, Chido Obi-Martin now has 15 goals for the season.

A remarkable feat for the 16-year-old who is now close to matching or even breaking a record set back in the 2006/07 season.

According to journalist Jeorge Bird, who was following the game on X, the highest number of goals scored in a season by an Arsenal schoolboy was Rhys Murphy with 20.

And with five games remaining this season, 15-goal Obi-Martin could have a great chance of making Hale End history.

Where did Rhys Murphy’s career end up?

For those interested, 33-year-old Rhys Murphy is currently playing his football for Yeovil Town in the National League South.

Sadly the striker never went on to make senior appearances for Arsenal, eventually leaving for Telstar in The Netherlands.

But Chido Obi-Martin will certainly be hoping that he has a rich future ahead in north London..

The Arsenal youngster is quickly becoming the most talked about player around Hale End, and following his goal-scoring for the remainder of this campaign will be a nice sub-plot to the senior side’s pursuit of two historic trophies.

All that being said, a Sky Sports journalist did recently provide an update on Ethan Nwaneri’s first team path.
