32-second wait for callers to Herts County Council’s customer services

Callers wait an average of 32 seconds to be answered by Hertfordshire County Council’s customer service centre.

According to the latest data published by the authority, 81,017 calls were made in the three months between October and December 2023.

Of those, 93% – 75,346 – were answered and 7% – 5671 – were abandoned.

The data shows a slight variation in the average wait time over the period. In October, the average wait time was 34 seconds; in November, it was 31; and in December, it was 29.

The data is part of a report for the council’s resources and performance cabinet panel on Tuesday, April 16.

According to that report, the wait time during the three months “was similar to other councils and organisations”.
