Mikel Arteta says player Tottenham have sold this season is truly 'one of the best' around

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a solid season and now have the edge with regards to sealing a Premier League top-four spot.

Spurs appeared rudderless at the end of last season as they limped to an eighth-placed finish without a manager at the helm.

However, since Ange Postecoglou took the Tottenham reins in the summer, Spurs have quickly risen back to the levels seen under Mauricio Pochettino.

Indeed, Tottenham looked like they could’ve been dark horses for the title at one point, racing out of the blocks in the first third or so of the season.

And now, with just seven league games remaining, they’re on course for Champions League qualification.

What’s even more impressive is that Tottenham have got themselves in this position without Harry Kane leading the lines.

How has Tottenham legend Harry Kane fared at Bayern Munich?

Spurs sold Kane for a reported £100million on 12 August, the same weekend as the Premier League campaign got underway.

The Tottenham academy graduate’s departure was something Postecoglou suggested he was powerless to stop, as he had seemingly made his mind up already.

Kane has certainly impressed at Bayern Munich, registering 38 goals and 12 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.

And though he has left Spurs, the England captain has the chance to make himself even more of a legend in the fans’ eyes on Tuesday night.

Bayern are up against Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place at the Emirates Stadium.

What has Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said about Harry Kane?

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to the press ahead of the match, spoke highly of the Spurs cult hero.

“Everyone here knows the quality of Harry Kane – for me, personally, he is the best finisher in the world,” BBC Sport quote Arteta as saying on Monday afternoon.

“He can finish with head, left foot, right foot – the guy, since I arrived in Europe, is one of the best.

“It’s great to play against this kind of player. Obviously, we want to keep him quiet and then we try to win the game.”

Obviously Kane’s departure from Tottenham was a heavy-hearted affair for everyone involved, but you can’t really argue that it was the best thing for all parties.

Spurs pocketed a hefty fee for selling Kane, which has enabled the club to reinvest in their squad and make them better all-round.

In addition, the whole narrative of ‘Kane hasn’t won a major trophy in his career’ is no longer something that will burden Tottenham. They can now develop as a team in their own time.

As for Kane, he’s now at a club that normally wins multiple trophies a season. Admittedly, Bayern have had a fairly bad season this year, but such campaigns are few and far between.

They tend to push the boat out after a bad season and usually bounce back fairly quickly
