The Celtic title race reality as Neil Lennon gets honest over chances

Celtic are in a title race that could go down to the final stages of the season as they compete with Rangers for the Scottish Premiership crown.

We now know that just six matches of the league season remain, which may prove pivotal as 2023/24 navigates towards the excitement of the split.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are expected to play three home fixtures and two away from Parkhead; however, we will have to wait until next week to find out more.

For now, the Bhoys prepare for their upcoming battle with St Mirren on Saturday, where they can claim the top spot regardless of events elsewhere this midweek.

Before the Glasgow Derby last weekend, the Irishman claimed his side have a clean bill of health at Lennoxtown, providing the Hoops with plenty of room for manoeuvre regarding squad rotation in the run-in.

Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo are among those to put themselves in contention for a start against the Buddies due to their excellent cameo displays against Rangers, though we will need to wait and see on that front.

Neil Lennon discusses Celtic’s ongoing title battle

Hoops icon Neil Lennon won a combined ten Scottish Premiership titles as a player and manager of Celtic, and he knows more than most about the requisite qualities needed to see his old club over the line.

Despite declaring Celtic as slight favourites for the league crown amid their draw at Ibrox last weekend, the Irishman believes tough tests lie ahead if Rodgers’ men are to turn their aspirations into reality.

He stated when asked who are favourites to win the league title [PLZ Soccer]: “I’m going to say Celtic because the big game, when it comes around again, is at Celtic Park.

“You need to look at the split as well; I think Celtic may have to go to Kilmarnock, which will be very, very tricky.

“They’ve got three home games and two away; one will be Kilmarnock and (the other) possibly St Mirren (away games); if you’re going to win the league, you need to win all the games. Are this team capable of doing it? I don’t know.

“Are Rangers capable of doing it and winning all the games? I don’t know. For me, Celtic have got a leg-up, but I’m not saying they’re clear favourites to win it now.”

Despite noise from elsewhere, Celtic need to continue to write their own story this season and know that six victories in their final league fixtures will be enough to seal a third successive title.

Rangers have proven they won’t go quietly this year; however, the prospect of facing our rivals at Parkhead in front of a capacity home crowd is a mouthwatering one to say the least.
