Morgan Wallen‘s ex-girlfriend, KT Smith — the mother of his child — has spoken out on his most recent arrest in Nashville, saying she hopes he’ll “return to the good path” that he was on previously.

Nashville police arrested Wallen on Sunday evening (April 7), after he reportedly threw a chair off the sixth-floor rooftop of Eric Church‘s newly opened downtown bar, Chief’s. The chair landed just feet away from two police officers who were standing on the sidewalk below, and after talking to witnesses and reviewing video, Nashville police arrested Wallen and charged him with three felony counts of reckless endangerment, as well as a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Wallen’s ex-girlfriend, KT Smith, shares a 3 1/2-year-old son, Indigo, with Wallen. She married her boyfriend, Luke Scornavacco, just days before Wallen’s arrest, but in a statement to People, she states that she does not believe his outburst is related to that news.

“Although it may seem like it correlates because of the timeline, I have no evidence to believe the incident had anything to do with the recent marriage announcement,” Smith says in a statement the Daily Beast obtained. “I cannot speak on Morgan’s behalf, but I do pray the very best for him. Praying that this was just a slip up and that he will return to the good path that he was on prior.”

Wallen has a long and complicated legal history. Nashville police arrested Wallen on Jan. 18, 2016. He faced charges of misdemeanor driving under the influence after that arrest, which prosecutors later dropped.

He was arrested again on May 23, 2020, after he was kicked out of Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville for reportedly kicking glass items inside the establishment. That resulted in charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct, which prosecutors later dropped.

His latest arrest comes as Wallen launches his 2024 One Night at a Time Tour, which runs from April 4 through Aug. 8.
