‘I still think’: Simon Jordan predicts whether Everton will be relegated after latest points deduction

Everton have every right to remain aggrieved after this latest PSR debacle, in which they have now been deducted a further two points.

And whilst it should now mark the end of the sanctions, for this season at least, it still remains a sore spot for many fans and likely the players, who continue to see their progress expunged from the Premier League table.

Fortunately, survival remains firmly in their hands, and with a favourable run of fixtures, there is hope that Sean Dyche can now steer this ship to shore.

They also now have the backing of one high-profile pundit too.

Simon Jordan predicts the relegation outcome again

Speaking live on talkSPORT (09/04, 10:08 am) just yesterday morning, the former Crystal Palace chairman was first keen to ensure that, whilst Farhad Moshiri took on the bulk of the blame, was not a complete lightning rod for all criticism.

After all, he named others involved in the steady regression of Everton, before making a stunning claim about how the points deduction might affect the club in the coming weeks.

However, he then settled down and sought to predict how the relegation battle might finish, naturally focusing on the Toffees for now.

Jordan noted: ‘I still think Everton will avoid relegation. When I hear observations from former Everton players like Andros Townsend who seem to have forgotten they played for that football club, talking about the idea that they get lift…

‘If the only way you can stay in the division as Luton Town is other teams getting sanctioned, for transgressions that weren’t victims of, you weren’t part of this league, the sporting merit that other teams can complain of, legitimately, that Everton have gotten, is not the same for loot and because Luton weren’t there.’

This came after Townsend suggested that the ordeal had made a ‘mockery’ of the division.

Everton are still in the strongest position to achieve safety

Even if they currently sit 16th in the Premier League, deeply embroiled in the five-team race to escape the third and final relegation spot, they remain in danger.

After all, just one win for Nottingham Forest and Luton Town would plunge them into the bottom three.

However, the Toffees are blessed with a far more favourable fixture list than most, given they face the bulk of these rivals at home.

Forest, Brentford and Sheffield United all have to come to Goodison Park, whilst a trip to Luton Town represents a nervy end to the season.

But, it is this position which arguably gives them the edge over these other sides, not to mention a vastly superior goal difference which could be crucial in what has been such a tight affair thus far.
