Hong Kong police have seized two batches of suspected cocaine found on the city’s beaches in less than a week, with a total estimated market value of around HK$27 million.
Officers discovered eight packages of suspicious white powder inside a plastic barrel on Lido Beach in Ting Kau on Tuesday morning, police told HKFP. Investigators said there were around eight kilogram of suspected cocaine inside the packages, valued at around HK$8 million.
The drug bust on Tuesday came only six days after another suspected cocaine discovery on Chung Hom Kok Beach in Stanley. According to the police, a man reported last Thursday that there were some blue packages on the beach, with suspicious white powder inside.
Police later found 19 parcels, approximately 12 centimetres by 20 centimetres, on the beach. Personnel from the explosive disposal unit said the packages contained 19 suspected bricks of cocaine weighing around 19 kilograms. Their market value was estimated to be around HK$19 million.
Both cases were listed as discovery of suspicious objects and were followed up by the Narcotics Bureau, police said.
