£27m star becomes first-ever Arsenal player to do one thing in the Champions League

One Arsenal star broke a club-record in the Champions League during the Gunners’ 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal and Bayern Munich held each other to a 2-2 stalemate in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners will be cursing their own sloppiness at the back which cost them their opportunity to take a lead into the second-leg at the Allianz Arena. However, former Bayern Munich star Owen Hargreaves is convinced that Arsenal still have what it takes to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

After Bukayo Saka put the North London club ahead last night, two uncharacteristic errors at the back gifted the German giants the opportunity to turn the scoreline around. First, Serge Gnabry was able to level things up against his former club, before Harry Kane tucked away a penalty.

How Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus saved Arsenal v Bayern Munich

Arsenal fought back after the break when Mikel Arteta turned to his bench. Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard both came on in the 66th minute, replacing Gabriel Martinelli and Jorginho, and were able to impact the game.

With 76 minutes on the clock, the Brazilian striker produced some quick feet in the Bayern Munich box before laying the ball into the path of the onrushing Belgian. Trossard was then able to pick out the bottom corner and level the scores.

Praise was heaped on Jesus after this game for his involvement in the goal, but Trossard still had work to do when he came onto the ball. His finish was perfectly placed.

Trossard has been described as the best finisher in the Arsenal squad and Arteta will be glad that this chance fell to the former Brighton and Hove Albion man. The 29-year-old has now scored twice in as many games for the Gunners and continues to prove his value within the squad.

Leandro Trossard makes Champions League history for Arsenal

The £27 million attacker has been in fine form this season, and has now racked up thirteen goals, across all competitions. Four of those strikes have come in the Champions League, and those for have all come at the Emirates Stadium.

In that sense, Trossard has made history this season. As reported by Squawka, with his finish against Bayern Munich, Trossard became the first ever Arsenal player to find the back of the net in his first four Champions League outings on home turf for the Gunners.

Arsenal are now set to open new contract talks with Trossard.
