Liverpool already have their very own Phil Foden, he can become world-class next season - opinion

Sure Manchester City have Phil Foden, but Liverpool have their very own version coming through at the moment.

At this moment in time, it’s difficult to argue against Phil Foden being the best performing English player in European football.

Perhaps the only player that can come close is Jude Bellingham. Although if we are judging the two players just based on the last few weeks, Foden is probably the clear winner.

He’s scored four goals in his last four matches for Manchester City and has been pretty sensational.

Even from a Liverpool perspective, you have to give him respect and admit he is probably hitting world-class levels at this stage.

But soon, Foden will have some serious competition from Liverpool for that title, and for his position in the England national team as well.

Because there is a player at Liverpool who has everything it takes to become just as good as the Manchester City attacker.

Why Harvey Elliott is already similar to Phil Foden

Harvey Elliott has been pretty sensational this season for Liverpool. Especially when it comes to 2024 alone and has closely matched even Foden’s numbers.

So far in 2024, Phil Foden has made 15 goal contributions for club and country in all competitions.

After winning a penalty against Manchester United last weekend, Elliott is now on 13 goal contributions for the calendar year for club and country.

In total, Elliott has played 1249 minutes for club and country this season, so that means he has actually averaged a goal contribution every 96 minutes.

That’s an incredible return from the 21-year-old, who is only just getting started. The best is still yet to come, and I have absolute conviction we will see him turn into a world-class player next season.Especially if Ruben Amorim is appointed as Liverpool’s next manager.

Why Harvey Elliott is really important to Liverpool

Not only does he make key goal contributions, Elliott’s creativity and flair make him a unique profile in this Liverpool team.

He is able to create chances out of nowhere and the underlying numbers prove that as well.

According to Wyscout, only Mohamed Salah (1.3 per 90), Leon Bailey (1.27 per 90) and Moussa Diaby (1.21 per 90) average more key passes than Harvey Elliott (1.19 per 90) in the Premier League this season.

He is undoubtedly a special player who definitely has what it takes to emulate Foden’s numbers in the future.
