"I believe"... Dean Henderson now sends message to £40k-a-week Crystal Palace teammate

Dean Henderson has been impressing upon his return to the starting line-up lately for Crystal Palace, now he’s sent a message to his teammate.

For Oliver Glasner injuries have been a pretty substantial factor in his decision-making in the opening months of his reign.

Crystal Palace already has a pretty long list upon his arrival, but since then things haven’t got much better.

The most recent blow was to Sam Johnstone which then handed Dean Henderson his shot in the team for the first time under Glasner.

In these displays, he hasn’t disappointed and has made a real case for himself to be the starter from now on.

The goalkeeper has now sent his £40k-a-week teammate a message with his latest comments.

Dean Henderson sends Sam Johnstone a message

Henderson has been speaking with club media recently, giving an interview which exuded confidence in his ability which now looks well placed.

Since coming back into the team, Henderson has been pretty solid and will have Johnstone concerned about his position being taken while he recovers from injury.

Now, Henderson has spoken about his position in the first team and about how he’s confident that he deserves to start.

“Whenever I’ve been fit and I have been playing, I have been in the squad,” he explains.

“That’s something on the radar. I want to get back in there now. I have just got to keep performing and keep playing well.

“There are going to be ups and downs, as everyone knows. At the end of the day, I believe I should be there.”

It’s a tricky conundrum for Glasner, with both Johnstone and Henderson being top-class keepers. But who should start next season as No. 1?

Who has been better for Crystal Palace, Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson?

For Glasner, it’ll be a tricky decision to choose just one of his goalkeepers to start the 2024/25 season in goal.

But he’ll have to choose one, so after both have played a chunk of games this campaign, who’s been better? Let’s have a look.

Dean Henderson vs Sam Johnstone stats 2023/24

From this, it’s clear that both have areas they’re better than their teammate in.

While Henderson has conceded far more considering he’s played nine games less, it’s a metric which is hardly definitive with opponents’ quality taken into account.

Also, Henderson has made nearly two saves per game more than Johnstone which is substantial.

14 of Henderson’s conceded goals game in Hodgson’s final four games in charge while a further four were against Man City last weekend, which he can hardly be blamed for.

It’s a close battle between both, and we’re blessed to have such a quality pair.
