Harry Kane 'surprised' at 'strange' Arsenal v Bayern Munich decision he couldn't believe

Arsenal faced a familiar foe in Harry Kane as they drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich at the Emirates in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Kane was Arsenal’s nemesis whilst at Tottenham Hotspur, as their all-time top scorer, as well as the top scorer in North London derby matches.

No one else has ever scored against Arsenal as much as Kane has, and he continued his trend as he netted a penalty to make it 2-1 to Bayern in the first half.

He caused further anger amongst the Arsenal fans at the Emirates Stadium in the second half as he elbowed defender Gabriel Magalhaes in the face, with the supporters believing that he should have received a red card.

Kane was booked for the incident, and he has now given his verdict on the decision made by the referee to award him a yellow card, with comments which will only anger Arsenal fans more.

Harry Kane admits surprise at yellow card in Arsenal v Bayern Munich

Speaking after the game, via CBS Sports, Kane claimed that he was surprised that he even received a yellow card for the incident, which many believe he should have been sent off for.

“It was strange,” Kane stated.

“I’m not really sure, it was 50-50, he gave that one as a foul, and I’m surprised it was a yellow card, but it is what it is. Decisions sometimes go your way.”

Kane scored his penalty, but Leandro Trossard found an equaliser in the second half, meaning that it is all square as Arsenal head to the Allianz Arena next week.

Arsenal fans are very familiar with how Kane operates, having seen it on countless occasions in the past, and this is not the first time he has grappled with Gabriel.

In 2020-21, Kane escaped a lucky red for a similar offence as he smashed into the Brazilian, in a game where Arsenal came from behind to win 2-1 in the North London derby at the Emirates.

In 2022-23, the pair engaged in similar fierce battles, where again Kane kneed Gabriel in the back, as he then fell to the ground with a challenge that should have been punished more severely.

His actions at the Emirates last night therefore come with little surprise, but Arsenal will now hope to keep him quiet in next week’s clash in Munich.
