Moyes makes crushing new Bowen revelation and it's even worse than feared

David Moyes has made a crushing new Jarrod Bowen revelation and it’s even worse than West Ham United feared.

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions since West Ham’s top scorer Jarrod Bowen went down in excruciating pain at Wolves on Saturday.

Initial reporting by journalists after the game suggested it was nothing too serious.

That helped West Ham fans sleep on Saturday night.

Because the Hammers faithful know Bowen is arguably the team’s most important player.

Not only for his goal threat, pace and versatility but his desire, tireless running and work for the team too.

Bowen the man who makes West Ham tick

Bowen makes this West Ham team tick and there nails were already being chewed when an update emerged on Bowen that filled West Ham with dread ahead of the Europa League quarter-final first leg at Bayer Leverkusen.

It was claimed West Ham would wait until the day of the game to make a decision on whether Bowen could face the Germans.

Then a club insider brought grim news. That Bowen had suffered a badly bruised spine which would keep him out of the first leg and possibly up to two or three weeks.

Earlier today, though, West Ham’s official site appeared to offer a glimmer of hope by stating Bowen was ‘being assessed’ ahead of the match.

Moyes makes crushing new Bowen revelation

That was the first we’d heard from the club in an official capacity on Bowen’s injury and it appeared to bode well.

But now we’ve had word from the manager and it’s not good at all.

David Moyes has made a crushing new Bowen revelation and it’s even worse than West Ham feared.

Because the Scot has revealed Bowen has actually suffered damage to his knee too which is bad enough that no timescale can be put on his return at the moment.

“Jarrod isn’t with us, he’s twisted his knee and there’s some sort of damage,” Moyes revealed as reported on the club’s official site.

Hammers can’t even put a timescale on return

“We can’t give any dates of when he might be back, unfortunately.

“He’s an England international and we know how important he is to our team, so he’ll be a miss for sure. But we have good players who can come in, so we’ll stay positive.”

Absolutely devastating news.

Especially after we spoke to German football expert Kevin Hatchard to preview the game and he backed West Ham to burst the Bayer bubble because of the threat Bowen poses.

If Bowen has twisted and damaged his knee as Moyes says then West Ham will be lucky to see him again this month let alone for the second leg.

But let’s just take each day and game as it comes and keep everything crossed.
