Speakman factor means online speculation around £2.5m Sunderland man is surely false - opinion

There’s speculation on social media that a certain Sunderland star wants out this summer.

The Premier League vultures look set to swoop on Sunderland in the summer transfer window.

Anthony Patterson, Jack Clarke, Dan Neil, and now Trai Hume are among those attracting transfer interest, in what could be a very lucrative summer for the Black Cats.

But Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman will surely, hopefully, be wary of offloading all of the club’s valuable players this summer.

One or two sales could go a long way in helping to rebuild and rebalance the playing squad in the summer, whilst also helping towards a possible compensation fee for Reims boss Will Still.

Clarke seems like the most obvious.

Then maybe Patterson who’s been attracting more and more interest of late, with Celtic, Leeds United, and Leicester City now among the clubs linked with the Sunderland academy man.

Jobe Bellingham is attracting fresh interest with Lazio reigniting their attention ahead of the summer transfer window.

But then there’s the players who aren’t necessarily in demand, but who could still head for the Stadium of Light exit doors this summer.

Perhaps none more so than Nazariy Rusyn.

Currently injured, the 25-year-old Rusyn has featured 21 times in the Championship this season, scoring just twice.

Following his reported £2.5million transfer from Ukrainian outfit Zorya last summer, Rusyn has seemingly struggled to settle into life in the Championship and life in England.

There’s been numerous reports of Rusyn struggling to learn the language, though he’s since seen his family arrive in the country.

Online rumours claim Nazariy Rusyn wants out of Sunderland

And now, there’s speculation emerging on social media that Rusyn wants to leave Sunderland in the summer.

It appears that the claims have stemmed from fan forum Ready To Go, having since been surfaced on X:

Rusyn is currently under contract until 2027.

Why Nazariy Rusyn speculation is surely false

There’s no doubting the fact that it’s been a tough maiden campaign for Rusyn.

Settling into the country and into the rigours of the second tier would be hard for any player who’s never experienced it before.

And whilst he’s shown glimpses of a player with potential, there’s still so many question marks over his ability and also his best position.

Sunderland are desperate for someone to step up and score the goals but many doubt whether Rusyn could eventually be that man for the Black Cats.

But, under contract for a few more years, and having arrived for a decent transfer fee, Sunderland will surely be eager to give Rusyn more time to fulfil his potential.

Kristjaan Speakman would’ve done his research on Rusyn.

He’ll no doubt have faith in him eventually becoming a top player for the club, and that he may, so expect a sudden summer sale to be unlikely at this point.

That, and it would also look bad on Speakman if Rusyn leaves so soon after joining, and Speakman is already under the spotlight as it is.

Whilst the Rusyn rumours make sense, they feel unlikely at this stage.
