If Dundee thought Rangers were annoyed at pitch fiasco; just wait and they read ex-player’s POV

Ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd is never one to mince his words as Dundee found out this morning.

The Ibrox hero was left utterly aghast at the news that Rangers’ Dens Park clash was to be called off for a second time due to a waterlogged pitch.

Kris Boyd isn’t the only one who’s been left fuming either.

The Ibrox side released a furious statement in the aftermath of the call-off with Dundee fully expected to receive sanctions following a fifth postponement this season.

With the match rescheduled for next Wednesday (17/04), there are still plenty of hurdles to clear before it can go ahead.

But in the mean time ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd has been unloading on Dundee for their shambolic pitch and their behaviour around the call-offs.

Kris Boyd slaughters Dundee directorate

Writing in a column for the Scottish Sun, Dundee managing director John Nelms was the subject of much criticism.

The American director was nowhere to be seen yesterday with the man who replaced him – club secretary Eric Drysdale – also getting it tight from Boydy.

In a stinging column, Kris Boyd reckons the Dundee pair ought to be ashamed for how they’ve handled the situation with their pitch and with Rangers.

“Tony Docherty and his Dundee players can walk tall for what they’ve done this season,” starts Boyd.

“Dens Park Managing Director John Nelms and Club Secretary Eric Drysdale?

“I’m sorry, but should be hanging their heads in shame.

“The professionalism that’s been shown in the dugout and out on the pitch has been night and day from the AMATEUR HOUR performances off it.

“This is a club that’s fighting for a top six place.

“And yet their decision-making at boardroom level has been nothing short of disgraceful.”

Later Boyd added: “I just find this whole farce a shambles from top to bottom.

“Whatever Dundee decided to spend on their pitch at the start of this season, it wasn’t enough. Whatever they budgeted for, it was insufficient. That’s nothing to do with rainfall.

“When Dundee were deciding whether to spent money on players or their pitch they opted to bolster their squad.

“That’s it in a nutshell and it’s why I have zero sympathy for Dundee in all of this.”

Dundee v Rangers pitch shambles a smite on Scottish football

It’s not just the shambolic state of the pitch that Kris Boyd has taken aim at when it comes to Dundee either.

The ex-Ibrox striker reckons the situation reflects badly on the Scottish game as a whole and has been left frustrated with the timing of the situation.

With Rangers and Celtic playing out an Old Firm cracker which brought in a record audience of 1.4m people, Dundee’s pitch has just brought us back down a peg or two.

“With the match also set to be broadcast by Sky Sports, the waste of money, resources and time has been astonishing and really there’s no alternative but to punish the Dens Park club,” said Boyd.

“It’s the same for the broadcasters who have prepared for this game time and again. All we hear in this country is that clubs don’t get the proper funding.

“And yet we have a company like Sky having to call off a showcase game because a club doesn’t have a pitch capable of coping with rainfall in April. That’s just not good enough on any level.

“The viewing figures for the Old Firm game on Sunday were also through the roof at 1.4million.

“That’s a lot of eyes on our game, with many of them probably looking forward to tuning in again this midweek. But Dundee wrecked that.

“It’s the supporters I feel for too and not the ones who were planning to watch the game on the TV.”
