Cambridge United will be without Michael Morrison and Lyle Taylor for Sky Bet League One clash against Charlton Athletic

Cambridge United will once again be without captain Michael Morrison and experienced striker Lyle Taylor for the visit of Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Skipper Morrison has not featured for the U’s since the 4-0 defeat at Reading on 16 March because of a knee problem, while Taylor limped off during the Good Friday victory at Barnsley with a groin injury.

Head coach Garry Monk had previously said that in Morrison’s case in particular that this weekend’s clash against the Addicks could mark a return to action, but both are now set to return to training next week.

Monk said: “That’s still the case (both missing on Saturday) unfortunately. You want as many options as you can get at this period of the season but it is what it is.

“The plan is that those two will be back out training next week. If all goes well over the weekend, they’ll be looking to be back involved from next week onwards.”

One player that is set to be involved at the Cledara Abbey Stadium is centre-back Ryan Bennett.

The 34-year-old came off at half-time during last week’s 1-0 loss at Blackpool, but he will be available for selection.

Monk added: “He’s fine. He’s back in training like normal this week. He’s available and ready to play.”

Goalkeeper Jack Stevens continues to nurse a hamstring injury, while the likes of Brandon Haunstrup, George Thomas, Harrison Dunk and Saikou Janneh remain long-term absentees.
