Another Wolves man wins an award: Midfielder's talents have now rewarded by the PFA

Wolves ace received international praise this week as he was awarded the PFA Special Recognition award.

Molineux currently boasts a special set of footballers. Under the guidance of Gary O’Neil, many of the first-teamers are playing the best they have done in their careers this season.

As a result, many players have been rewarded for their performances for Wolves. Joao Gomes made his international debut for Brazil last month while Max Kilman continues to have shouts to be in the England setup.

However, one man who has now been recognised with an award for his achievements before he joined Wolves is Tommy Doyle.

Since signing for Wolves last summer, Doyle has rarely had a bad game for the club.

Despite struggling to hold down a regular spot in the starting XI, the midfielder has often bossed games in the Premier League.

Coming from Man City after Matheus Nunes’ move up north, the 22-year-old helped Sheffield United gain promotion last season. However, that wasn’t his only major achievement in 2023.

Alongside players such as Antony Gordan and Wolves academy graduate Morgan Gibbs-White, Doyle helped oversee the England U21s lift the European Championships last summer.

The midfielder came on in the final, seeing out the last 10 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Spain.

Now, just under 12 months after their triumph, Doyle has been awarded the PFA Special Recognition award. This is due to his contributions to the team throughout the summer.

It is exactly what the midfielder deserves after helping England lift the Under 21 European Championships for the first time since 1984.

Here, he clearly made a big impact on the squad. After being capped for the first time by the Under 21s in 2021, Doyle collected 13 caps for the squad between 2021 and 2023.

The potential of Doyle is clear. While he may not earn the plaudits each time he steps out onto the Molineux pitch, he is a standout each time.

With his best days still in front of him, Doyle could go on to become one of the best midfielders in the league.

His technical ability to spray the ball forward is already unmatched in the Wolves squad.

While Wolves still haven’t confirmed his transfer from Man City, it is extremely unlikely that they won’t activate his option to buy.

If he does sign permanently, he is a player Wolves could build a team around for years to come. Players such as Joao Gomes and Pedro Neto are constantly being linked away from Molineux.

However, Doyle dipping under the radar this season can only be good for Wolves.
