'More choices': Kari Lake appears to drop previous hardline pro-life stance in new video

Real America's Voice/screen grab

Kari Lake flipped again on her stance for women's reproductive freedom Thursday, easing off her hardline pro-choice stance and saying she wants to make sure 'every woman who finds herself pregnant has more choices."

After teasing a release of her position late Wednesday, she dropped a more than 5-minute video where she uses the words "choice" and "choices" twice within the first 28 seconds of the video.

Lake, who in May 2022 announced that "a child's gender is determined by God at conception," later that yearcheered on the 1864 law that almost totally bans abortion and that has just been declared the mandate over the state of Arizona.

"I'm incredibly thrilled that we are going to have a great law that's already on the books," she said in that interview. "It will prohibit abortion in Arizona except to save the life of a mother. And I think we're going to be paving the way and setting course for other states to follow."

Lake, who is running the represent the Republicans in the Senate, now says she is against a total ban, and agrees with Donald Trump that legislation should be decided at the state level — though that is what happened with the Arizona law.

The law reads: "A person who provides, supplies or administers to a pregnant woman, or procures such woman to take any medicine, drugs or substance, or uses or employs any instrument or other means whatever, with intent thereby to procure the miscarriage of such woman, unless it is necessary to save her life, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two years nor more than five years."

In 2021, Lake even went so far as to tweet her support for the Texas law that is now bringing women near death before they can be saved from medical emergencies in their pregnancies.

Now, Lake is changing her tune again.

In the video released Thursday, she begins by saying the new ruling from the Arizona Supreme Court is "out of line" with the desires of the people of the state.

"The issue is less about banning abortion and more about saving babies," Lake claimed.

But it was just last month Lake told NBC News that abortion is “the ultimate sin” and called for abortion pills to be illegal.

On Thursday, however, she reinforced that she agrees "with President Trump this is such a personal and private issue."

"I chose life, but I'm not every woman," Lake continued. "I want to make sure that every woman who finds herself pregnant has more choices so that she can make that choice."

Lake then takes it a step further, praising a law in Hungary that gives tax breaks for women with children.

She cited that country's 2023 law that aims to increase the birth rate.

"As of January, women in Hungary who become mothers under the age of 30 'will be exempt from paying personal income tax' for the rest of their lives," Insider cited an announcement from Balázs Orbán, political director to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
