‘No chance’: Stuart Pearce shares Man City verdict in Premier League title race

Stuart Pearce has shared his thoughts on whether Manchester City will win the Premier League title or not.

As things stand, City, as well as Arsenal and Liverpool are in the frame to win the title, with all three sides having seven games left to play.

With the trio in action this weekend, one pundit and former top-flight coach has shared his prediction for who will be crowned league champions next month.

Speaking in a recent episode of the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Pearce said this when asked who he thinks will win the Premier League title this season and why.

He said: “Last summer I said I’m not too sure who would win it but Manchester City won’t. On the grounds of when you’ve reached your Everest, the Champions League last year, there’s going to be a drop-off of some description.

“We’re in mid-April at the moment, they’re third in the league, so if someone would have said that to you, you would have said no chance.

“If I had to pick a team now, I’d say Arsenal. I think Arsenal have got a tough run in, they’ve got to go to [Manchester] United and Tottenham [Hotspur]. But I don’t think they’re conceding goals, they’ve learnt from last year.”

Will Man City win the title?

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently one point behind Arsenal, who occupy the top spot of the Premier League table.

Out of their 31 games, City have won 21, drawn seven and lost three, whereas the Gunners have won 22, drawn five and lost four of their league matches in this campaign.

With Pearce mentioning Arsenal’s defensive efforts this season, the north London club have only conceded 24 goals, fewer than any other side in the division and seven fewer than City.

Taking that into account, it’s easy to see why Pearce thinks Mikel Arteta’s side have the edge in the title race at the moment.
