'Soap Opera': Fox News host rolls eyes at latest GOP 'political stunt'

Two Fox News correspondents Thursday appeared to roll their eyes at Republicans' latest stunt on Capitol Hill before introducing a segment that put the emphasis on Democrats decrying efforts across the aisle.

When Neil Cavuto introduced the segment on the impeachment effort against U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, he called it a "soap opera."

Cavuto focused on the Republican senators he said are "not too keen" on pushing Sen. Chuck Schumer to schedule the trial, then pivoted to Chad Pergram for a complete report.

Pergram opened his segment with a clip of Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) expressing his outrage at the state of border security under Mayorkas' tenure — Republicans have argued broadly that Mayorkas' immigration policies violated his oath of office — but then cut the Missouri Republican off mid-statement to make a point.

"Democrats say they have the votes to quickly terminate the trial," Pergram said. "Republicans want to make things difficult to underscore problems with Mayorkas."

After weeks of vote-wrangling and failed attempts amid their threadbare majority, House Republicans impeached Mayorkas in February.

The exact misconduct alleged remains unclear, but he segment concludes with not one, but two Democratic senators condemning the impeachment push as a "political stunt."

"There's no case there and they know it," Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) says. "If they want to drag it out for publicity, that's there decision, but everybody sees through it."

"It is basically something that I can't wait to vote against," adds Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). "They wanted to let it fester."

Pergram closes his segment by reporting that while 43 Senate Republicans put there name to demands that Schumer hold a full trial, "six GOP members did not."

Cavuto, before thanking Pergram for the cover, responded, "Wild."
