Trump's loss of 'critical' lawyer 'could pose a significant issue for' ex-president: CNN

The revolving door of esquires for former President Donald Trump keeps swinging — this time Evan Corcoran has reportedly made a "quiet exit."

However, a Trump campaign spokesman is denying the news.

CNN's Kaitlin Collins reported that sources have told her that the attorney had left the classified documents defense team "in recent months" while the case has yet to be placed on a calendar.

The attorney bowing out as counsel may become a thorn for the 45th president since he is a potential key witness should the case ever get to trial, according to the report, which says the departure "could pose a significant issue for the former president."

That's because Corcoran took potentially incriminating notes about the classified documents stashed at the Mar-a-Lago country club — and federal prosecutors have obtained them.

Last year, Corcoran was mandated to testify before a grand jury probing the case against Trump by a district judge, discounting his efforts to assert attorney-client privilege.

The attorney, CNN noted, was considered an original member of Trump’s classified documents counsel to have defended him since the charges were brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith accusing the former president of hoarding banker boxes full of extremely secret materials he took with him from the White House to Mar-a-Lago and obstructing the feds' attempts to recover them.

Trump has pleaded not guilty.

Despite recusing himself from repping Trump, Corcoran continued to defend him in other cases.

As CNN noted, the attorney personally appeared with the former president when he was arraigned in Washington last August on federal charges related to his 2020 election subversion case.

Corcoran didn't respond to CNN's request for comment.

Meantime, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung supplied the network with a statement that reads: “Mr. Corcoran remains on the legal team and is continuing to help fighting the Biden Trial witch-hunts."

He added that “any assertion otherwise is fake news peddled by uninformed sources and untruthful reporting that seeks to leak disinformation and misinformation.”
