Penn State Recruiting: 2025 commit breakdown

David Reginek-USA TODAY Sports

Penn State once again finished inside the top 20 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings in 2024. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions are on pace for something greater in the 2025 cycle, however.

With June underway, Penn State continues to push for a top-10 class. The Big Ten program currently checks in at No. 14 in the nation and No. 4 in-conference, as of June 10.

The Nittany Lions have 14 commits. Franklin and his staff continue to make hay recruiting in Pennsylvania and the Northeast — though a pair of prospects far from Happy Valley now sit atop the class.

Penn State Class Breakdown

The linebacker room is set to be stacked for PSU. Three of the six highest-ranked commits in the fold for PSU are all LBs. Jersey City (N.J.) Henry Snyder four-star DJ McClary is flanked by Latrobe (Pa.) Greater four-star Alex Tatsch and Pittsburgh Imani Christian four-star Dayshaun Burnett. Tatsch is a major outlier in the On300, checking in at No. 75 overall compared to his No. 188 On3 Industry Ranking.

On April 11, Elba (Ala.) four-star running back Alvin Henderson joined the class. The No. 8 RB in the nation chose the Nittany Lions over Auburn in a major recruiting win for Franklin and Co.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star cornerback Daryus Dixson became the highest-ranked commit in the class when he announced his decision on June 10. He and Henderson are both top-150 recruits overall.

A pair of tight ends bolster the class in Powhatan (Va.) four-star TE Matt Henderson and Pittsburgh North Catholic four-star TE Brady O’Hara. Beebe (Ark.) The Woodlands three-star running back Kiandrea Barker and Aliquippa (Pa.) three-star RB Tiqwai Hayes provide some firepower in the backfield.

Other top commits include Canonsburg (Pa.) Central Catholic three-star cornerback Xxavier Thomas, Boulder (Colo.) Fairview three-star quarterback Bekkem Kritza and Avon (Conn.) Old Farms three-star offensive tackle Owen Aliciene.

Top PSU Offensive Commit: RB Alvin Henderson

The 5-foot-9, 195-pound burner is now the latest to join the fold for PSU and is the highest-ranked commit in the class. He ranks No. 116 overall, No. 8 at the running back position and No. 11 in Alabama.

Henderson explained his decision to commit to Penn State with On3’s Chad Simmons:

“My three reasons for choosing Penn State are its tradition for running back development that Coach Seider and Coach Franklin have built, the family feeling that I felt around the campus and the fans when I was there and the opportunities to go there and be successful.”

Top PSU Defensive Commit: CB Daryus Dixson

Dixson logged his official visit to PSU on June 7 and wasted no time, making his decision soon after. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back is the No. 135 overall prospect and No. 14 corner in the nation.

He broke down his decision with On3’s Chad Simmons:

“It is about family there. That was big, and the relationships are genuine, so that had an impact on my decision. Then it was about player development. That is big for me, too. I trust in the coaches and believe they can get me to where I want to be.

…When I got out there and saw everything with my family, it looked good, the relationships were strong and I decided Penn State was where I wanted to be.”
