Nearly 500 people took part in Fakenham Easter Sunday Funday races

Runners, riders and spectators turned up to enjoy an Easter fun day race in Fakenham.

Active Fakenham’s Easter Sunday Funday races saw nearly 500 people turn out despite the rain in the town centre, with ages ranging from under two years old to over eighty.

Three official British Cycling circuit races continued despite the wet conditions through the afternoon.

The organiser of the event from Active Fakenham, Richard Crook, said: “We had record numbers for the runs, which were good-natured, inclusive and fun.

“We had a 5K race, a 1K fun run and a Toddle’n’Trike for the under five-year-olds.”

The cyclists reached speeds of around 35mph despite the testing conditions.

This event has been held since 2016, attracting people from as far away as Bristol and Birmingham, however it was mostly attended by local people.

A spokesperson for Active Fakenham said: “We kept the cost down as well as giving some free places to local children.

“We gave away over 300 Easter eggs, medals and goody bags to the children who took part.”

The spokesperson said that they would “like to thank the many volunteers that gave up much of their Easter Sunday” - more than 50 people helped out on the day.

Andy Redford, who took part in the 5K, said he “loved the 5K event, I can’t wait for next year’s.”

Another runner, Laura Bullimore said she “got a 5K personal best”.

Local businesses also supported the event.
