'Sounds like a veiled threat': Jim Acosta highlights troubling part of recent Trump tirade

Former President Donald Trump recently put out yet another video attacking Judge Juan Merchan, who will be overseeing his hush-money trial in New York next week.

On Friday, CNN host Jim Acosta played a portion of Trump's video and highlighted a particularly troubling section that he said was reminiscent of Trump's words in the leadup to the January 6th Capitol riots.

In the video, Trump complains about a gag order he was hit with and alleges that the order "only happens to me because I'm able to tell people what's happening and those people get extremely angry with what's happening!"

After this, Trump said that Judge Merchan should be recused from the case and complained that "there's never been a judge more conflicted," without providing any evidence to back up such an assertion.

Acosta then remarked that Trump's comments about his supporters getting "very angry" "sounds like a veiled threat."

Guest Norm Eisen said Acosta's instincts appeared to be spot on and likened them to the menacing rhetoric Trump used after he lost the 2020 presidential election.

"Remember... he tweeted [about the January 6th 'Stop the Steal' rally], 'Will be wild!'" Eisen recalled. "In that context, with the repeated history of his words leading to risk and danger and violence, that's why this gag order is in place. Contrary to what he said, it's not unusual. And when he says his people get angry, that should be a flashing red light."

Acosta then speculated that Trump on Monday may try to provoke Judge Merchan into taking even stricter action against him as a way to generate a furious backlash from his supporters.

Eisen, however, believed that Merchan is wise enough to anticipate Trump's behavior and not take the bait.
