FA share how much Leeds have paid in agent fees this season, the numbers are crazy

The Football Association have published how much Leeds United have spent on agent fees between the period of 1 February 2023 and 1 February 2024.

It has been a big week on the financial front for Leeds with their accounts for the 2022/23 season also having been released on Wednesday.

Phil Hay has confirmed the club have told him Leeds are compliant with profit and sustainability rules in both the Premier League and EFL, though it would be fair to say they don’t make for great reading.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire told talkSPORT on Thursday that Leeds actually owe clubs across Europe £190 million in unpaid transfer instalments, which is a simply incredible amount.

Leeds spent big to bring in the likes of Georginio Rutter, Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams during the last financial year, with Maguire suggesting former owner Andrea Radrizzani used the ‘Leeds United credit card’ in order to do so.

And with the FA having released official figures on how much each club in the top five divisions of English football have paid in agent fees today, it would be fair to say that also does not make for great reading.

Leeds have comfortably paid the most across the entirety of the Championship, but have also spent more than a number of clubs in the Premier League too.

With a figure of £13,287,748, Leeds’ figure is over £5 million than fellow relegated sides Leicester City and Southampton. They have paid just £8,113,789 and £7,537,386 respectively.

Incredibly, Leeds have also paid more than eight Premier League clubs in Brentford, Brighton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest, and are also not far behind either West Ham or Wolves.

It is not exactly clear why that is the case, though it has to be said, with the amount of first-team players Leeds currently have out on loan, it would not be a surprise if that had something to do with it.

Financial figures show Leeds need promotion this season

Leeds’ financial accounts certainly do not make for brilliant reading and so it is paramount the club do get promoted this season.

Parachute payments reduced in the second season after relegation and so with how much is owed out in transfer instalments, they would have to sell some key players.

It will also be interesting to see how the agent fees figure would change once the future of all Leeds’ loan players has been clarified.

Leeds are unlikely to welcome any of them back into the fold and so once they are all completely off the books, it may help to lower it.
