A Washington Teacher Was Found Stabbed to Death In Her Own Home. Her Husband's Body Will Turn Up Next, Police Say

A Washington state elemetary school teacher was found brutally murdered inside her home, and police say her husband's body is likely to turn up next.

Caitlin Follstad, 41, was found Tuesday afternoon inside her home with multiple stab wounds, according to the Anacortes Police Department, adding that her father-in-law, who was not named, made the 911 call.

The father in law also told authorities that his son and Caitlin's husband, also 41, was suicidal and driving towards the Deception Pass Bridge.

Washington State Troopers located the husband's car at the center of that bridge later that day, according to police. APD named the husband as a person of interest in the case Tuesday evening.

Earlier that day, police had responded to a call for a body in the water in the vicinity of the bridge, and while no body has yet to be discovered, police believe that the husband, identified as Kevin Follstad by Law & Crime, committed suicide on that bridge.

"Based on the circumstances surrounding the case, what has happened, where the vehicle was discovered, and the unknown nature of his whereabouts, we do believe that's what happened," Brent Lindquist with the APD told KOMO.

Caitlin Follstad taught fifth grade in Anacortes School District, which said that Caitlin Follstad was beloved and will be missed.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic loss of Caitlin Follstad, a cherished member of the Island View Elementary community," the district said. "Her passion for education led her to Island View Elementary, where she served as a teacher, mentor, and friend. The Anacortes School District extends its sympathies to Caitlin's family, friends, students, and colleagues during this difficult time."
