Trump mocked after insider admits ex-president 'couldn't get his head around' basic fact

Former President Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump was ridiculed Friday after his former adviser admitted he "could not get his head around" a basic fact.

Former adviser Fiona Hill reports in a new book reviewed by the Guardian that Trump, as president, had a hard time understanding Ukraine was a country.

“Trump made it very clear that he thought, you know, that Ukraine, and certainly Crimea, must be part of Russia,” Hill reportedly said. “He really could not get his head around the idea that Ukraine was an independent state.”

Hill, who served on the U.S. national security council from 2017 to 2019, reportedly made this admission to New York Times reporter David Sanger in his new book, New Cold Wars: China’s Rise, Russia’s Invasion, and America’s Struggle to Defend the West.

Sanger argues that Trump’s view of Ukraine was “essentially identical” to that of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

News quickly spread to social media where the former president was mocked.

"What to expect from a country that has a clown running for president," asked Baba Yaga.

Other readers raised concerns about what Hill's report said about a potential second term for Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

"Alarming," replied @Argentocox93708. "These kinds of arguments led to two world wars."
