Sunderland target wins Championship Player of the Month award

After a disastrous few months, it is clear that Sunderland a summer refresh. Alongside a new, incoming manager, a fresh take on the first-team squad is also needed if the Black Cats want to reach the Premier League.

One man Sunderland has been linked to in recent weeks is Mikey Johnston. The attacker has enjoyed a successful loan spell at West Brom where he has netted seven times in 14 games.

Now, Johnston has been recognised for his form as he was awarded the Championship Player of the Month for March.

Sunderland are once again on their travels this Saturday. The Black Cats once again face another promotion contender in West Brom who are currently in the playoff places.

Long-term absentee close to returning

One major issue for the Black Cats in 2024 has been their injury list. Multiple first-teamers have hit the sidelines in the recent months posing a major problem for Dodds.

While it wasn’t the only reason, this issue no doubt helped cause Sunderland’s dramatic drop-off throughout 2024.

However, the players now seem to be on the mend, with plenty of the club’s stars now returning to the pitch. With the end of the campaign now approaching, it seems that Dennis Cirkin may also return before its conclusion.
