‘He's been brilliant’: Ange Postecoglou says 27-year-old Tottenham player is truly ‘outstanding’

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has named the Spurs player who has been truly outstanding this season.

While Tottenham Hotspur are not going to win the Premier League title this season, the North London club are in a great position to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are fourth in the table at the moment with 60 points from 31 matches, level on points with Aston Villa, who are fifth and have played 32 games.

Tottenham have been hugely entertaining to watch. They have scored 65 goals in the Premier League this season – just six fewer than a Manchester City side who have the great Erling Haaland.

Spurs, though, have not been great defensively. Postecoglou’s team have conceded 45 goals in the league this season.

That is largely due to the expansive way that Tottenham play under Postecoglou, who opts for a high defensive line even when the team are down to nine players.

Ange Postecoglou gives his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario

Spurs do have a very good defensive unit, and part of that is Guglielmo Vicario, a player Postecoglou rates highly.

The Tottenham head coach believes that Vicario has been brilliant and outstanding this season, adding that he has never been bothered when opposition teams have targeted him from set-pieces.

Postecoglou told TNT Sports about Vicario: “For the most part he’s handled it pretty well. What I’ve loved about Vic is whenever that’s happened, the next ball that’s come in he’s gone for it again.

“It can’t be underestimated the impact he’s had, when you talk about a goalkeeper who has never played in the Premier League before… and he hasn’t come in from a massive club, only one or two years of Serie A experience, I just think he’s been outstanding.

“There have been a lot of games this year where he’s pretty much kept us in it with a big save or a big moment. For a goalkeeper in his first year of Premier League, still very young in terms of maturity and experience at the top level, I think he’s been brilliant.”

Guglielmo Vicario will get better

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario will grow and develop further.

Vicario is 27 years old now. That is relatively young when you consider the longevity of goalkeepers in the modern game.

The Italy international does need to work on his game and cut out one or two weaknesses, but he does have the potential to get even better. And I think that he will.
