Graeme Souness argues ‘keyboard warriors’ unfairly criticised ‘terrific’ Liverpool star after performance vs Man Utd

Graeme Souness has hit out at “keyboard warriors” who singled out one Liverpool star after the Reds were held to a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first half and Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the break leading Manchester United in their Premier League clash.

However, Bruno Fernandes cancelled out Luis Diaz’s opener only five minutes into the second half with a sensational finish past a helpless Caoimhin Kelleher.

Kobbie Mainoo then pulled the Red Devils into the lead with a superb finish, leaving Liverpool to fight back for the remainder of the second half at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s men salvaged a point from their Premier League outing after Mohamed Salah beat Andre Onana from the spot-kick late into the second half.

United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool cost the Reds crucial points in the Premier League title race, with Graeme Souness now defending one Liverpool star.

Souness reacts to Liverpool star’s display vs Man Utd

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League and are level on points with league leaders Arsenal in a three-horse title race this season.

Defending champions Manchester City are third and Pep Guardiola’s men are only one point behind Liverpool and Arsenal with seven league matches remaining.

Jurgen Klopp is in his final season at Liverpool and the 56-year-old German confirmed that he would leave Manchester United’s fierce rivals in the summer.

Speaking in his column for The Daily Mail, Graeme Souness insisted that Darwin Nunez was “singled out” and criticised by the “keyboard warriors” for his display.

Darwin Nunez failed to capitalise on his chances against United and Klopp even withdrew him for Cody Gakpo in the second half after an underwhelming display.

“Darwin Nunez has been singled out for example,” Souness said.

“But him missing chances will not be the reason Liverpool fail to win the Premier League title.

“Keyboard warriors were quick to criticise following the draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford last Sunday when he and his teammates missed fabulous opportunities.”

Premier League title race is Man Utd fans’ worst nightmare

United fans are forced to watch their Premier League rivals duke it out for the league title, with the Red Devils likely to miss out on the top four.

A Premier League title win for Klopp in his final season at Anfield would move Liverpool level with United for most league title wins in history.

City, on the other hand, could become the first team in history to win four consecutive Premier League titles if they retain their championship crown.

Arsenal are on the hunt for their first Premier League title since legendary former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger captured the trophy in the 2003-04 season.

“There’s a collective responsibility for why Liverpool didn’t beat United and Atalanta, Nunez may never be the most clinical but what he offers on and off the ball is why Jurgen believes he is a real team player and a terrific asset,” Souness added.
