'There's a bit' – Man Utd legend finally sends clearest message about his future in football, he doesn't hold back

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has sent the clearest message about his future in football after leaving his role as Wales manager in 2022.

Ryan Giggs spent his entire playing career at Old Trafford and is widely regarded as one of the best players in Manchester United’s longstanding history.

A famed member of the Class of ‘92, the 50-year-old Welshman spent the large majority of his playing career under legendary ex-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Giggs was a player-coach under former United boss David Moyes and later stepped into the dugout as interim player-manager after the Scotsman’s dismissal in 2014.

The United legend built on his coaching experience after the arrival of Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford, with Giggs serving as assistant manager to the Dutchman.

Giggs departed United after Louis van Gaal’s sacking in 2016 and Jose Mourinho’s appointment at the club, with the former United star continuing his coaching career.

The former United winger took his first steps into management after he took charge of the Wales national team in 2018 and secured Euro 2020 qualification for his side.

However, Giggs took a step back from his duties in 2020 after he was arrested on assault charges, which the United legend denied and was later cleared of in his trial.

The former Wales boss officially stepped down from his role in charge of the national team in 2022 ahead of the trial over the allegations he faced at the time.

Man Utd legend Giggs on his future

Rob Page took over from Ryan Giggs as Wales manager after the Manchester United legend resigned from his post.

Giggs has been out of football management since his spell at Wales, despite being cleared of the allegations against him in 2023.

The former Wales international has previously hinted at his desire to return to management, despite Giggs ruling out his desire to manage one club in particular.

Giggs is currently a co-owner of Salford City alongside his fellow Class of ’92 members and has taken up a new role at the club in 2024.

According to The Athletic, the United legend recently appeared at the Radlett Centre and received a ‘standing ovation’ after he ‘wandered onto the stage.’

Giggs has made it clear that he has “unfinished business” and has refused to rule out a return to football management after enjoying his spell with Wales.

“There’s a bit of unfinished business,” he told the audience in attendance.

“I was obviously enjoying coaching Wales. We had a pretty successful time. And yeah, I loved it. So, I don’t see why not.”

Giggs on his time as interim United manager

Giggs previously revealed that his four-match stint in charge of United after Moyes’ sacking was a pivotal moment in leading him to a career in coaching.

Speaking at an event at the Ulster Hall in Belfast in January, he said: “It was actually when I realised, I wanted to be a manager.

“It was actually after a defeat. We got beaten by Sunderland and it was after that game I knew I had to drop teammates and I was still playing.

“After that, I had no problem changing the team, dropping players, and it was at that point that I knew I had that decision-making.”
