'We will see': Mauricio Pochettino gives update on £50m Chelsea player's fitness, he's a doubt for Monday

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on one player’s fitness in the build-up to Monday’s game versus Everton.

Chelsea host Everton on Monday night in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues currently sit ninth in the league table, albeit they may have dropped lower after the weekend’s fixtures.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are under pressure to respond following last Sunday’s extremely disappointing draw against Sheffield United, which leaves them with a lot of work to do to finish in the European positions.

Mauricio Pochettino gives update

Chelsea boss Pochettino has shared a little more detail regarding Raheem Sterling.

First of all, Sterling was named on the club’s weekly release of their injury list on their official website, which means he’s a doubt for the upcoming fixture at home to Everton. The club confirmed yesterday he’s currently absent through illness.

Pochettino’s now further explained that the 29-year-old Blues winger is missing because he’s been sick, so he’ll have more tests before the Everton fixture.

“He is suffering from vomiting, he told the doctor. He was not training at the start of the week after Sheffield, because he suffered a problem in his back, but we will see,” Pochettino said via Chelsea’s official website.

“We need to assess him and see whether it is a virus or not.”

Raheem Sterling out of the limelight

Sterling was receiving a lot of criticism for the level of his individual displays a month ago, so perhaps it’s a good thing he’s had a little time to refocus.

The winger’s been a substitute in the club’s last three league games, coming off the bench in two of them.

By the sounds of his illness he’s about to go four matches out of the starting XI in the league, his longest run of the season.

Hopefully, the experienced attacker is back soon and ready to start playing his best again!
