Journalist shares the reason why John Stones isn't playing for Man City vs Luton Town

Manchester City are without John Stones as they take on Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester City return to Premier League action following their thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Madrid when they face off against relegation battlers Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium.

Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol were on the scoresheet at the Bernabeu on Tuesday but only the Croatian defender is still in the starting XI to face the Hatters.

Pep Guardiola has made sweeping changes to his side in a bid to keep as many of his stars as fresh as possible for the second leg next week.

Foden, who went off with a dead leg against Madrid, and Bernardo are on the bench while Jack Grealish and Rodri have also been rested for the match.

City still have a strong side but there has been yet another injury blow before the game as John Stones has been ruled out.

Why John Stones isn’t playing vs Luton Town

Stones did not arrive with his teammates at the Etihad and will not be involved in the game.

Journalist Sam Lee has revealed the centre-back is not playing because he is ‘not fully fit’.

Lee posted on X: “Loads of changes but still a strong team.

“Stones ‘not fully fit’, which is a headache they don’t need. Walker back on the bench is good for Wednesday, though.”

Stones picked up an injury on international duty and was forced to go off just 10 minutes in to the 2-2 draw with Belgium.

However, he recovered in time to play 90 minutes against Crystal Palace and Madrid over the past week but Stones did play on through obvious discomfort in Spain.

A brave decision that may have come back to haunt him.

Man City get double injury boost.

There is at least some good news for City, though.

Defensive duo Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake are both back on the bench to face Luton after being sidelined for the last few matches.

The return of Walker is particularly timely as he may be fit to return against Madrid and help City combat the pace of Vinicius Jr.
