'Kept it under wraps': TalkSPORT pundit claims Liverpool have already chosen their next manager

Liverpool fans are still waiting to learn who will take over from Jurgen Klopp as manager next season.

Klopp has a maximum of 11 games left as Liverpool boss. After Thursday’s drubbing against Atalanta in the Europa League, that’s more likely to be reduced to eight.

With the clock ticking fast on Jurgen’s tenure, Reds fans might be starting to get a little angsty about who follows the German.

Klopp was today talking about which band he would like to hear playing at his Anfield farewell next month. Things are getting very real in that department. Time is almost up. Liverpool need to get moving on their decision.

But according to former striker and Liverpool fan Tony Cascarino, there’s nothing left to move. The Reds have already chosen their man.

Liverpool have already chosen next manager

Publicly, Liverpool have had since January to decipher who could be the ideal successor to Klopp.

But, in private, FSG have actually known since November that they would have to find a new manager for 2024/25. That’s a good five months or so ago.

In that time – or at least since January – Liverpool have been linked to a number of different coaches. According to Cascarino though, this is all just paper-talk. He says that the Reds know – and have known for some time – who follows Klopp.

“I think they know their man already,” the pundit told TalkSPORT. “If you knew in November that your guy was going you’d have spent a hell of a lot of work knowing who is the right appointment. If you don’t know by April, nearly six months ago now, then there’s something’s wrong somewhere.

“They kept Klopp under wraps, incredibly, without anybody having any inkling at all,” Cascarino added. “No one had a clue that Klopp was leaving.

“If you’ve got six months to choose a manager I’d imagine they’d nearly have it in place but just kept that under wraps as tightly as they kept it under wraps that Klopp is leaving.”

Who’s still in the running for the Liverpool job

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that Ruben Amorim is the favourite to be in the Anfield dugout next season.

Amorim looks like the outstanding candidate for the moment and has been reported to have entered into talks with Liverpool.

The Sporting manager isn’t the only one being looked at, though. There have been counter claims that the Reds are in fact still deliberating and could go in another direction. In that event, the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Thiago Motta may still come under consideration.

So, publicly, there are still discussions to be had. But we’re with Cascarino here. A club as well run as Liverpool don’t allow things to get this far without knowing what’s going on. Whether it’s Amorim or if they’ve got a trick up their sleeve, we think the Reds already know what lies in wait.
